Saxony-Anhalt also wants to allow long-only truck in transit

Rochus Goergen, Magdeburg
23/08/2011 | The provincial government of Saxony-Anhalt will be no long-truck outside of highways on the streets. The day before, already the Baden-Württemberg Minister of Transport, Winfried Hermann use in his country outside of the highways had been categorically rejected.

"Our big concern is that these vehicles can not manage to come there," said Transport Minister Thomas Webel (CDU) in an interview with Deutsche Presse-Agentur. The field trial for the intended long-truck, in politics often incorrectly shortened "Gigaliners", are up to 25 meters long and 44 tons. "Saxony-Anhalt has not for the streets," said Webel. "We will resist it." The U.S. DOT was planning a field trial past the Bundesrat. The majority of countries reject the project. So far as the limit for trucks is a length of 18.75 meters and a total weight of 40 tons. Federal Transport Minister Peter Ramsauer (CSU) is hoping that the great vices of reduced congestion and less fuel consumption.

Webel pointed out that even a normal truck would have difficulty in some roundabouts. The curve radii should increase for longer trucks and crossings are reconstructed. The current limit for the length of the vehicle is so meaningful: "The limit has not been created by some," said Webel, who also has experience as a district administrator with transportation services projects. "We are causing more problems lay in the nest."

In exceptional cases, on long journeys are also possible today even with a special permit - such as the transport of large blades for wind turbines. These vehicles are usually at night but then go and the routes would be carefully examined beforehand.

No involvement in action

If the long-trucks are allowed only for highways, new problems were not excluded. "It could be that someone in a traffic jam on the highway must be down because of a full closure," said Webel. Of a lawsuit against the federal government, as some countries already consider him, but he would abstain. (Dpa)
